The collection of “The Road to Estonian Statehood. Principal Constitutional Instruments with Commentary” is now available in English

The collection "The Road to Estonian Statehood. Principal Constitutional Instruments with Commentary," originally released in 2020, has been recently updated with insightful commentary and references and is now available in English as a digital publication.

On 24 February, the Estonian people celebrate the 106th anniversary of the establishment of their state. The path to independence for every nation is unique, and this collection provides an overview of the constitutional processes, decisions, and instruments through which our modern constitutional order was built.

"The collection is intended for an English-speaking audience interested in Estonian history and the development of its constitutional law. Until now, the non-Estonian-speaking world has not had the opportunity to gain a more comprehensive overview of Estonia's constitutional path to statehood and its development," said the compiler of the collection and author of the comments, Rait Maruste

In the interest of clarity, the language and translations of the relevant decisions and documents have been harmonized and updated. Brief comments, references to English-language sources, and illustrative photos help to understand the societal environment in which the Republic of Estonia emerged and developed.

The collection was translated into English by Meelis Leesik. The publication of the book was supported by the Ministry of Justice and issued by the Constitutional Law Foundation operating under the Estonian Academy of Sciences.
