Outgoing short research visits

2024 Call for applications for outgoing short research visits is closed
2025 Call will open in September 2024

Application process

Application in English with all required annexes (including an official letter of invitation from the host organisation) should be submitted electronically through online application form.

Visits are supported through bilateral cooperation between Academies of Sciences (see the list of possible host countries and our partner academies).

Applicants

Applications can be submitted by researchers working in any positively evaluated research institution in Estonia provided they meet criteria set by our partner academies (for terms and conditions see here).

Visits are meant mainly for the visits directly connected with research – for example joint experiments in partners laboratory or fieldwork, work in archives or with other collections, planning future cooperation and preparing new applications, preparing joint publications etc.

Host academy will cover the accommodation costs during the visit and provide daily allowance.
Costs NOT covered by the scheme: International travel costs, visa fees.
Also we NO SUPPORT will be given for participation at Conferences (even with presentation), working in libraries, trainings (for example attending lectures), meetings connected with curriculum developments as primary purpose of the visit.
All these activities can be part of the visit, but we do not support these as an only aim of the visit.

Stages of the application process:

  • Before submitting the application – Contact with the host organisation for getting the formal invitation for the visit
  • September – new Call opens
  • November – Deadline of submitting the applications
  • December – Decision by the Council for International Exchange of Estonian Academy of Sciences
  • After the decision – The application will be sent to the partner academy for the formal decision as they will be covering the costs of the visit. Time and conditions of the final decision differ from country to country. We will inform you on the results as soon as possible.
