Estonian Academy of Sciences Foundation

On 1 May 2006, the Estonian Academy of Sciences Foundation was set up, attached to the Estonian National Culture Foundation, with the aim to support the research of young Estonian scientists holding a doctorate, in coherence with the overall activity of the Estonian National Culture Foundation, in support of the Estonian national culture in the widest meaning.

The Academy set aside for the new sub-foundation of the Estonian National Culture Foundation the amount of EEK 400,000 assigned from proceeds of the sale of the rehabilitation home of the Academy on the island of Vormsi. With the help of the newly founded Foundation, the Academy hopes to pave the path to the knowledge-based society in Estonia, providing financial support to that noble end. Besides, the Academy has also called on other organisations, enterprises, institutions and individuals to engage in co-operation, in order to make a material contribution to Estonia’s economic, social and cultural development both today and in the future, through tangible support to top-level knowledge, research and the young scientists.

The first scholarships from the Estonian Academy of Sciences Foundation will be allocated in autumn 2007. For awarding of the scholarships, a board of trustees will be set up, upon proposition of the Academy. Sitting on the Board of Trustees will be Members of Academy Ain-Elmar Kaasik, Leo Mõtus, Jaan Ross and Peeter Saari.
